Pictures for Poster/Digipak

These are just some of the pictures I had taken for my ancillary task of Kate,
before she dropped out and decided she did not want to participate in my video
anymore. Because of this, I have now had to take some more shots of my new
cast member.

To Do List

- upload storyboard and paper analysis of lyrics which are at home

- upload animatic

- take pictures of my artist to start creating images for my ancillary task (doing friday)

- reshoot some scenes that needed touching up

- drafts of magazine advertisement for the other tasks

- upload the first cut of video

Cast List

As this is a performance video of a song sung by an individual female, I have chosen to cast one girl. I have chosen to cast my friend Kate for the role I feel she would be the perfect candidate for the following reasons:

- She is within the target audience of the artist

- She has her own independant look which already makes her her own brand and individual.

- She is visually atractive and looks good on screen

- She is confident and willing to do almost anything

Locations List

I have chosen to shoot all my shots in mainly in a bedroom, as my song is refers to sexual references and can be seen as quite love based, I believe the bedroom is a good setting as it represents this theme well, with the connotations of seductiveness with my artist layed on a bed.

Prop List

In my music video, compared to the original of the song, I have chosen to match some of the props I use that reflect the theme of love and seductiveness. The props so far are as followed:

heart shaped teddies, a bed, sunglasses, love based novels, other misc teddies, red lipstick. All these connotate love and the theme I wanted to show to the audience.

Naming my Artist

I need a name that will suite the artists role. I researched unusual names as to ensure that my artist stands out, but then I realised the artists who are involved in the same genre dont always have extraordinary names because they believe they stand alone, whereas other artists create a stage name like 'Sasha Fierce' who is Beyonce's alter ego.
The names are:

Katy/Kate
Sadie
Florence
Lily
India
Summer
Ruby

I quite liked a few of these names, but to make a name final, I decided to mess around with some fonts on dafont.com to see what name and style would go quite well on a poster/cd cover. I also decided to experiement with other types of font styles to keep my options open when choosing the image I want. I also took into account how artists have their own looks when having certain fonts on their covers after analysing, so I didnt want to choose a boring font which wouldn't stand out individually.

Audience Research

Earlier on in the year, I conducted some audience research which helped me when decided what genre and type of image I wanted to create from that when making my music video. Here is what I asked and what I found out from doing the short questionnaire. I asked 5 different people 3 questions each, some inside and some outside of the class.

Please tick the appropriate box

What is your favourite music genre?
Pop
R&B
Indie
Rock
Dance

Which do you prefer?
Female solo artists
Male solo artists
Girl groups
Boy bands
Mixed groups

Which music tv channel do you favour?
MTV
Kiss
The hits
MTV 2
Smash hits
4 music

What appeals to you within a music video?
Performance
Narrative
Abstract
Interesting visuals

After explaining my brief to a group of people, I handed this questionnaire out to 10 of my peers, aged 17-21 to collect information to help me to see what the public would like to see from a music video..The results were as follows:
Favourite music genre: Indie/alternative
Favourite type of artist: Female solo artist
Favourite TV channel: 4 music
Music video appeal: performance & interesting visuals

I am pleased with the outcome of these results as I can now gather artists i think would be suitable candidates for the soundtrack and style of my music video. I have narrowed these down to 'Lily Allen', 'Kate Nash' 'Norah Jones' 'Marina and the Diamonds' and 'Katy B'. When deciding, Lily Allen was the most popular, but instead of going for her I decided to go for the 2nd option, Kate Nash, as she isnt as well known as Lily but was once mainstream.

Font Resources

To create my magazine front cover, I'm using an online font software called Da Font (http://www.dafont.com) which has thousands of different fonts to choose from. This is perfect in choosing the best style for acillary tasks which require stylish text to match my genre of music and representation. I am currently looking through a few different styles in the 'fancy' category, which contains many italic fonts and sophisticated fonts which represents the image of my artist. Da Font is a downloadable service which I am unable to use, so for me to have the particular font I want from the website I have to print screen by using a key on the keyboard then paste it into the Paint software to select the font I want, then paste it into Adobe Photoshop CS3 to use in my magazine. I am still going to use the font software on Adobe Photoshop CS3 as I want a variety of fonts and stlyes on the front cover to create a posterwhich will stand out from the others and represent my artist's image.

More Text Experiments

The sort of text I want on my CD cover is quite sophisticated, but also quite modern. I don't want a whacky sort of font that would not represent what my song was about, or artist. I want my artist to be contemporary so I've decided to pick a contemporary text, simple but effective. I plan to experiment with these in depth and put them against different images in different ways to get the most proffesional CD cover for my music video. I wont have the text nesscarily black, and I want to experiement with different colours against different backgrounds when I come to editing an image of my chosen artist.
